PSHCE

JOT the Robot

The Equality Act 2010 aims to prevent discrimination. It is illegal to discriminate against people based on nine protected characteristics.

No form of discrimination is tolerated at Sproughton C of E primary School, but it is particularly important that children are taught about these protected characteristic groups and the importance of showing respect to people within these groups.

We address this in a number of ways, such as through our Collective Worship which is linked to our Curriculum 6 C’s and our school values. We also ensure that our curriculum is planned and delivered in order that children learn about these protected characteristics in an age-appropriate manner. Please see our PSHE curriculum map below which shows the different PSHE topics that include teaching of these protected characteristics across the school. The protected characteristics are shown in orange.

Impact

Children leave Sproughton C of E Primary School, secure in the knowledge, skills and understanding of the three PSHCE big ideas:

  1. Health and Wellbeing – I am healthy because I understand, prioritise and develop my physical health and mental wellbeing.
  2. Relationships – I am healthy because I can build healthy, respectful and non-discriminatory relationships based on equality.
  3. Citizenship – I am healthy because play a full part in society as an active and responsible citizen.

Learning and teaching in PSHCE is monitored regularly
by the subject leader for learning: Mrs Kathryn Lummis.
